Jane Prutton – Member of the Academy Trust, Chair of Governors
Jane is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), and works as an HR, Accounts and Administration Manager within the manufacturing industry. Jane joined the Board of Governors in December 2012 as a Community Governor and in September 2014 became the Chair of Governors. Jane has been a resident of Sandy for 16 years and has a daughter and son who both attended the Academy.
Mike Sale – Member of the Academy Trust, Vice Chair of Governors, Chair of Finance Committee
Mike is a director of a technology company that specialises in starting up and developing USA-centric companies within Europe. This role has provided Mike with the opportunity to understand and appreciate not only the importance of an interdependent team and the results that a strong team can achieve but more importantly to understand and interact with different worldwide cultures and beliefs. Mike joined the Board of Governors in September 2007 as a Parent Governor and in September 2011 accepted the role of Vice Chair and Chair of the Finance Committee
Kim McCamley – Principal
Kim has been Principal of Sandye Place Academy since April 2011. Kim always wanted to be a teacher from as early as she can remember. Teaching is her passion and Kim continues to teach Maths alongside the demands of her role as Principal. Kim joined the Board of Governors in September 2008 as an Associate Governor, she is also chair of the Looked After Children Governing Body for Central Bedfordshire and a member of the Heads Forum for the local authority.
Angela Desborough – Staff Governor
Angela has worked as a Teaching Assistant at Sandye Place Academy since December 2008 and joined the Governing Body in May 2012. Before re-training to become a Teaching Assistant, Angela had a career in sales and recruitment. She has two children – a son in year 11 and a daughter in year 7. Sandy has been her home town for 16 years.
Andy Fielding – Parent Governor, Chair of Environment, Health & Safety Sub-Committee
Andy is a Computer systems Engineer working for a National IT solutions provider, previous to this career change he was a Self Employed Carpenter and Joiner specialising in Bespoke Joinery. He has two school age children and two grown up children and six grandchildren. He has been a retained Fireman, sat on other voluntary committees and is a member of a lower school PTA. He joined the Governing body in 2015 and sits on the Health & Safety and Finance Sub committees.
Steve Fox – Parent Governor, Chair of Curriculum & Standards Committee
Steve is an Electronic Engineer. Steve previously served in the armed forces and has since worked in both the private and public sectors supporting the forces. During this time Steve has developed his skills in procurement, finance, contracting and support management. Steve joined the Board of Governors in September 2008 as a Parent Governor.
Hannah Ranson - Community Governor, Chair of Marketing Committee, member of Academy Trust
Hannah is a Communications Accounts Team Manager at local charity the RSPB. She previously worked as a PR consultant specialising in working with organisations in the education sector. Hannah joined the Board of Governors in November 2010 as a Community Governor and in April 2011 became the Chair of the Marketing Committee bringing her experience of the press, marketing and communication to the committee.
Malcolm Riches - Parent Governor
Malcolm has been a Lighting Sales manager for a UK manufacturer for 28 years giving him a broad breadth of business experience and social skills. He is married with a 4 year old son and a 10 year old daughter who currently attends SPA.Malcolm has been a Sandy resident for 30 years, who attended SPA (when it was Sandye Place) then Sandy Upper, on leaving school he took an apprenticeship as a Mechanical engineer.
Ted Rowland - Community Governor
Ted is a serving Police Sergeant. He has served for over twenty years, all in Bedfordshire, and his roles have included General Patrol, Public Order Tactical Advisor, Specialist Training Manager, Force Control Room Supervisor and is now working in the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit in Luton.
He is currently Chair of Governors at Maple Tree Lower School and is a member of their Management and Kids Club Committees. He also sits on the School Admission Appeals Panel and Exclusion Appeal Panel for Central Beds Council. Ted joined the Board of Governors in July 2014 as a Community Governor.
Ben Sale – Associate Governor
Ben is a Head of Key Stage 2 at Sandye Place Academy. He studied Sport (science and management) at Nottingham Trent University before qualifying as a teacher in 2006. Ben joined Sandye Place in September 2008 and has previously been Head of Year 5 and Coordinator of PE at the Academy. Ben joined the Board of Governors in September 2009 and is the training link governor. As a Staff Governor, Ben represents the views of the staff at the Academy.
Peter Smith - LA Governor
Kaz James – Vice Principal, Associate Governor
Kaz is Vice Principal at Sandye Place Academy. Kaz was educated at the American College of Sports Medicine and UEL (BSc Applied Sports Science). Kaz realised his ambition of teaching in 2003. He has taught across Key Stages 2 to A-level in Mathematics and Physical Education. Kaz joined the Board of Governors in April 2011 as an Associate Governor.
Sharon Kane – Assistant Principal, Associate Governor
Sharon is Assistant Principal (Finance and Operations) at Sandye Place Academy. Sharon joined Sandye Place in 2004 as Finance Manager. Sharon moved to the UK from Ireland in 1991 where she launched the Tanning Shop. Sharon was responsible for the international operations of the company and successfully franchised the company to 150 stores nationwide. Sharon specialises in financial facilities, marketing, human resources and system management. Sharon joined the Board of Governors in September 2004 as Clerk to the Board of Governors. Following her promotion to Assistant Principal, Sharon resigned from her post as Clerk to the Board of Governors but remains part of the governing body as an Associate Governor.
Cath Watters – Clerk to the Governing Body
Cath is PA to the Principal and has been employed at the Academy since March 2010. Prior to joining the school, Cath gained extensive experience in the public sector, firstly as a HR and Career Development Officer in the British Transport Police and subsequently as a Contract Manager for the Strategic Rail Authority managing contracts between the Government and the privatised Train Operating Companies.
Cath is a Community Governor at a local Lower School and became Clerk to the Sandye Place Academy Body in January 2012. Cath has two children who both attend the Academy.
