Message from the Principal

My name is Kim McCamley and I am delighted to introduce myself to you as the Principal of this outstanding Academy.

I always wanted to be a teacher and from as early as I can remember would tell anyone who asked what I was going to grow up to be. My family would remind me gently that it was impossible for me to fulfil my dream because nobody in our family had ever been to university. Thankfully the teachers at my school were very supportive and guided me towards making the right choices. The day I graduated my grandmother came up to me and told me she always believed I'd become a teacher and that she was very proud of me. My grandmother loved telling anyone who'd listen about her granddaughter 'the teacher'.

My teaching career began in London at a primary school in Kings Cross and I progressed several years later to a challenging position in Hackney. I joined Sandye Place in 1994 instantly falling in love with both the school and its surroundings. To this day as I drive through the front gates every morning I take in the beautiful grounds and the majestic Mansion House and find myself smiling. I feel so blessed to be able to be a part of the whole Sandye Place Academy family set up.

As well as enjoying our exceptional location I am surrounded by an unusually dedicated and supportive team. The staff stretch themselves daily to ensure that every pupil at the Academy receives the best education possible.

Teaching is my passion. This is why despite the demands of my role as Principal I have made the important decision to continue teaching Maths. Of course this helps me to keep up to date with the latest trends in education, share good practice and develop skills alongside my colleagues. However, to be quite frank, I simply do not want to sacrifice the sheer delight of spending time everyday with the amazing young people who attend the Academy.

As your Principal my vision for the Academy is to raise the aspirations of everyone in the community. It is through my own aspirations that I find myself living my dream. They are powerful and the birthright of all children. We believe that given the space to grow appropriately everyone can become the author of their own destiny.

Yours sincerely

K McCamley
