At the Academy we care about the emotional health and well-being of our staff and pupils. Therefore we combine SEAL, Rights and Values (including British values) education with Personal, Social and Health education within our Personal Development curriculum. In addition to this curriculum, all lessons at the academy have a SEAL, Rights or Values learning objective (SRV) to consolidate our whole school approach.
In year 5 SEAL outcomes are made explicit to the children in all lessons. Activities within topic work reinforce these skills are delivered by the form tutors. Children develop their self awareness, motivation, empathy, social skills and learn to manage their feelings.
In year 6, 7 & 8 SMSC is delivered through weekly form time sessions. The three key themes are explored; Health & well-being, Relationships and Living in the wider world. Alongside SMSC we aim to develop the children’s thinking skills and promote positive behaviours through the delivery of our values based education.
Our monthly values themes for this academic year are:
Cooperation, Responsibility, Thoughtfulness and Reflection, Peace, Courage, Love and Caring, Tolerance, Respect, Determination/Perserverance, Honesty.
Areas of the curriculum also include the universal issues of children’s rights and how these rights should be respected.
Each form group votes in an SRV representative. The SRV representatives are part of a whole school working party who are tasked to support the teachers to deliver Personal Development across the curriculum and role model SRV skills.
