Personal Development has to be one of the most important subjects in the pupils’ timetable.
All through the year, hourly PD lessons once per week are used to deliver Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural skills (SMSC) underpinned in the following three key themes: Health & Well-Being, Relationships and Living in the wider world. Remarkably, by September 2019, it will be compulsory for all schools to include Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) in their PD curriculum. At Sandy Place Academy, we are well ahead of the game and our RSE programme has been planned and delivered by the form tutors for a number of years.
Our curriculum also combines SEAL (Social Emotional Aspects of Learning), the universal issues of children’s Rights and how these Rights should be respected, Values and British Values. In addition, all lessons at the Academy have a SEAL, Rights or Values learning objectives (SRV) to consolidate our whole school approach. We aim to develop children’s thinking skills and promote positive behaviours through the delivery of our values based education.
Our monthly values themes for this academic year are:
Cooperation, Responsibility, Thoughtfulness and Reflection, Peace, Courage, Love and Caring, Tolerance, Respect, Determination/Perserverance, Honesty, Hope.
